(News to Me) MZ Class Trialling LPG Injection

Consider this photo of ex Danish Railways MZ Class locomotive, 1431. If you look closely (click on the photo to view a larger version), you will see red “Flammable Gas” stickers on the front and sides of the locomotive – this is unique to 1431, and is not presently found on any other members of the MZ Class (at least not those operating in Australia).

This is the continuation of a trial done on 44 class unit 4498, which involves the injection of a small amount of LPG gas with the diesel fuel, resulting in improved fuel efficiency, and reduced emissions.
